Paul Klee (1879-1940) was born in Bern, Switzerland. As a young man he moved to Munich, where he studied art and joined the Blue Rider group, which also included such artists as Kandinsky, Muenter, Macke, and Marc. From 1921 to 1931 he lectured at the Bauhaus, and then at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf until his dismissal by the Nazis in 1933.
