Ils disent, plus que la rencontre d'un homme, la rencontre avec une peinture qui a contraint le philosophe, pour la voir et y accéder, à repenser entièrement les voies qui y mènent. Comment dire en effet au mieux une oeuvre qui entend « mettre fin à l'antithèse aveugle du figuratif et du non-figuratif », et qui, en se soustrayant à toute mondanité, n'est soucieuse que de rendre visible un « invisible l? ? Assembled around a verse by Apollinaire, these texts written between 1949 and 1993 are all devoted to the art of Pierre Tal Coat. More than an encounter with a man, they tell of the experience of a style of painting, one that obliged the philosopher, in order to see it and gain access, to entirely rethink his ways of approach. What is the best way to describe work whose intention is to ‘put an end to the blind antithesis of figurative and non-figurative representation', whose only care is to make visible an ‘invisible space', refuting all affectation? By reflecting on the paradoxes encountered in the paintings of Tal Coat, Maldiney forged a philosophy that gives the concept of aesthetics the fullness of its meaning.
