We have said that the influence of the Antiques Roadshow is important to the success of all our books - the review by John Bly of the Roadshow has proved this. So has our experience in industry where we published some 70-80 texts to inform and instruct mechanical engineers who needed vitally to know how to maintain, set and to an extent repair the electronic and electrical controls for plant and process machinery with which they were not familiar. The only way to do this was to provide multiple drawings with brief captions but comprehensive instructions for sensitive, state of the art machinery, readily damaged if abused. This technique worked with conspicuous success throughout the UK pharmaceuticals, soft and hard drinks, foodstuffs, pet foods, paper industries. We even worked for Bass in Nigeria. These ideas are the very heart of an instructional concept which has worked and has worked well.
